Yesterday, half the earth away from me, a number of innocent people lost their lives for the grand "crime"of choosing to believe something that another being disagreed with. I've been seeing a whole lot of posts along the lines of "We're all the same star stuff" and white light bullshit of that ilk.
No we most certainly are NOT.
Some of us - the overwhelming majority of us in point of fact - are like minded. We don't care what you believe as long as you don't harm anyone with that belief and don't step on anyone's right to believe whatever floats his/her belief-boat. We don't care what color you are, what gender you are or any of that superficial nonsense. We care that you are living on this planet with us, and that you act like a decent citizen of said planet and try to live harmoniously with all the beings upon it.
Then there are the others. There are those who decide to let fear, despair and anger overwhelm their common sense and decency and become violent "for a cause". They pick up arms - I'm counting explosives in that term, don't quibble - and commit atrocities trying to alleviate those uncomfortable feelings. They sow hate, despair and fear in their wake.
THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
They are weak. They have given in to despair and allowed it to bend their reality beyond breaking. They do not face their fear and try to understand it, they simply try to smash it out of existence - and fail miserably every time. They do not seek harmony. They do not seek peaceful resolution to conflict.

I will not join them. I will not despair. I will not hate - not even them. I will not own them. I will not embrace them, AND I will not hate them. I will not give up the hope that someday we can all live on this rock without hating each other to death. Am I angry, Yeah. Am I doing anything about that? Well, I might have a good screaming rant in the privacy of my bedchamber but otherwise, no. I'm not. Because to act upon anger is to become them and I WILL NOT DO THAT!
I am not the same as them.
I will not become them.
I will not give up hope.
